Jersey City Reform Temple Adopts Conservative Ritual

After 55 years of existence as a Reform edifice of worship, Temple Beth El here, commencing with the high holy days will no longer adhere strictly to Reform ritual but will become modern Conservative, officers of the congregation have announced. Worshippers will pray with their hats on. Another departure announced is that for the first time in its history the congregation will have a public sale of seats for the holiday services.

Announcement also was made that Rabbi Joseph Freedman has been chosen associate spiritual leader, to serve together with Dr. Maurice Thorner. Both are Reform rabbis.
