A movement to found a Jewish agricultural colony near Sao Paulo has been started simultaneously in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Both groups are motivated by the desire to substitute permanent means of earning a livelihood for temporary urban pursuits, and are cooperating to bring this about. Their combined efforts are expected to obtain from the government such aid as is usually given to all settlers.

The group has recently grown to such proportions that the Chief Rabbi, Dr. I. Rafalovitch, who is the ICA (Jewish Colonization Association) representative in Brazil, has promised to purchase for it an estate near Sao Paulo, where the climate is almost European.

This is the first attempt to found a Jewish colony since the failure of the ICA colony, Quatro Hermanos, which was named after four brothers who once owned that land. There are now in Brazil a number of completely autonomous colonies of various nationalities.
