Sheindel Helfman, Roumanian Jewess, committed suicide by jumping from the window of the Palestine Bureau office. She died on the way to the hospital.

She was despondent because after three months of waiting for a certificate enabling her to go to Palestine, her request had been refused and even a tourist’s visa had been denied her.

The European offices of the Palestine bureaus are filled with applicants begging for Palestinian certificates, many of whom have their families in Palestine and are kept from joining them by the struggle for the small number of certificates issued by the Palestinian government.
