One of two World Zionist Congress mandates to which Argentina and Uruguay are jointly entitled will go to the General Zionists, whose delegate is Chaim Nachman Bialik election returns from the two countries show. The General Zionists also claim the second mandate, but their claim is being contested by the Poale Zion-Zeire Zion group.
Elections were held July 2 and 9, but final decisions are still unknown. This is not unusual here, where months often elapse before the results of important elections are made known. In this instance, however, the delay is due to the contest between the two leading parties for the second mandate.
Twenty-two of the votes polled were annulled, so that 2,804 valid votes remain. Of these, the General Zionists received 1658; Poale Zion-Zeire Zion, 822; Entre Rios Youth-Hitachduth, 163; Revisionists, 161. The General-Zionists have therefore definitely won the first mandate. Their candidates are Chaim Nachman Bialik and Leib Jaffe, and their alternates, Dr. Mosenson and H. Wilensky. While the General Zionists also claim the second mandate, the labor coalition is contesting the claim, which will be settled by the elections committee of the World Congress. The labor candidates are A. L. Schussheim and Ada Fishman, with Dr. A. S. Yuris and Chaim Charuvi as alternates.
