General Zionists Try to Quiet Strife of Revisionists, Labor

An appeal for peace at the 18th World Zionist Congress by not expelling the Revisionists from the Congress presidium, as the Laborite fraction insists, was issued by the General Zionists in a resolution to the Actions Committee which opened its sitting this morning behind closed doors with Nahum Sokolow, president of the World Zionist Organization, in the chair.

The Actions Committee finally met after a postponement of the session from Tuesday. The Laborites had demanded representation on the committee in proportion to their strength at the 18th Congress. Dr. Chaim Weizmann was not present at the meeting.

At the meeting, the Laborites as the largest single group at the Congress, demanded the presidency of the committee. They agreed however to let Dr. Leo Motzkin continue in that position as usual with the proviso that no member of the Revisionists be included in the Congress presidium.

SEEK TO MAKE PEACE

The decision to take the lead in promoting peace was made by the General Zionists at the closed session of their group held today. They also appointed a special committee to negotiate this matter with the Laborites who made it clear that they were determined not to allow the Revisionists to be included in the Congress presidium. The General Zionists strongly urged peace for the benefit of all groups.

The Congress Court, which decides on the legality of the mandates on which the delegates were elected, announced that 396 delegates have been admitted to the Congress including 318 elected, 8 members of the executive of the World Zionist Organization and 70 members of the Actions Committee. Only 332 delegates are entitled to vote, since the Action Committee members, unless they are elected as delegates, have no vote.
