Simon Ackerman, prominent New York clothing manufacturer, sailed for Europe on the United States liner Manhattan determined that he would buy no materials in Germany where he had previously made the bulk of his purchases for his factories.
“I used to visit Germany every year and buy certain materials for my factories,” Mr. Ackerman said before his departure. “But since the advent of the blood-thirsty Hitler regime, not a cent’s worth of goods was bought from any firms in Germany. I have investigated the European market and found out that Belgium produces the sort of material which I used to buy in Germany. On my present trip I will, therefore, visit Belgium where I’ll make the purchases which were until now made in Germany.”
Mr. Ackerman recently spent several weeks in Washington conferring with NRA leaders on the code for the men’s clothing industry. With Charles D. Jaffe, he represented the New York clothing manufacturers.
Mrs. Ackerman accompanied her husband on the trip.
