A radical departure in the form of services at the Congregation Children of Abraham in Easton, for many years an orthodox synagogue, is to take place during the High Holy Days this year when part of the services will be conducted in English and part in Hebrew. The innovation, according to A. Aaron, president of the congregation, was demanded by the younger members, and a large response is anticipated.
The Temple Covenant of Peace, reform congregation, closed during the summer months, re-opened on September 8. Sunday school and Hebrew classes are being planned. Rabbi Joshua Trachtenberg returned this year as head of the congregation.
NEW RABBI AT BETHLEHEM
Rabbi Samuel Perlman, the new rabbi at the Brith Sholom congregation in Bethlehem, has arrived to assume his duties and was tendered a reception at the community Center. He came here from New York City. From 1930 until 1932 he was rabbi of the Congregation Emanuel at Saranac Lake and after that was director of the Jewish Youth Guild at New York. City. He is a graduate of the College of the City of New York and of the Jewish Institute of Religion.
ACTIVE SEASON PLANNED
Jewish community centers in the Lehigh Valley are planning for an active season during the Fall and Winter. Cultural programs are being arranged and some well-known lecturers are being scheduled to appear in Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown. A number of joint social events are also being arranged.
