Rabbi Stephen S. Wise pleaded here last nigth that Canada “make a grand gesture for humanity” by opening her doors to persecuted German Jews, in an address at the packed Temple Emanu-El. His words were broadcast for the benefit of the overflow crowd which thronged at the gates of the Temple.

Dr. Wise proclaimed with feeling what was generally regarded as the “cry of the Jewish people”: “We refuse to be slaughtered,” he said. “We want to live.”
