An increase in the number of German Jewish refugees to France since the beginning of September is indicated in a report of the secretary of the Jewish Refugee Committee here today.
The report states that during the month of August there was a decrease from 500 to 225 German Jews who were admitted weekly into Paris alone. This number dropped to 100, but with the growth of the Jewish boycott against Germany, the number of refugees has again risen considerably.
Nazi provocateurs distributed unsigned leaflets in the barracks which were given by the French government to the Refugee Committee for housing some of the Jewish refugees. The printed matter urged that the refugees become energetic and help themselves. It also alleged that the Refugee Committee possesses a half a milliard francs which are withheld from the victims, who are suffering from great hardships. The leaflets are designed to provoke refugees and arouse public sentiment against them.
PAGEANT TO OPEN SUNDAY
The first performance of the Jewish pageant “The Romance of a People,” will be held on Sunday, September 24 at the 258th Field Artillery Armory, Jerome Avenue and Kingsbridge Road, Bronx.
Holders of tickets for the cancelled performances at the Polo Grounds may exchange their tickets at either Leblang’s Theatre ticket office at Broadway and 43rd Street or any office of the Postal Telegraph Company.
The pageant has received such wide-spread support that present plans call for performances every night of the week of September 24.
