The first annual convocation of The School of the Jewish Woman will take place this afternoon at Congregation Shearith Israel, Central Park West and 70th Street. The school, which was inaugurated in October under the direction of Dr. Trude Weiss-Rosmarin, has 350 students.

Among those who will speak at the ceremony are Isaac Allen, president of the Federation of Talmod Toroth and Yeshiboth; Mrs. David E. Goldfarb, president of the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations, Mrs. Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Women’s Branch of the Union of Women’s Branch of the Union of Orthodox Congregations and Mrs. Samuel W. Halperin, national president of Hadassah. Mrs. Rebecca Kohut, president of the World Congress of Jewish Women, and Mrs. Albert J. May, president of the New York State Federation of the New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, will also speak. The convocation will be delivered by Dr. Trude Weiss-Rosmarin and Mrs. Israel D. Brodie will preside.

NATIONAL RECOVERY ASSEMBLY

The Women’s League of the United Synagogue of America expects a large representation from its numerous constituent groups to respond to the call which it issued for its affiliated sisterhoods to participate in the National Recovery Assembly planned by the United Synagogue of America, which is taking place today at the Hotel Commodore to consider the effect of the NRA upon Jewish religious life.

The Assembly has been hailed by both Jewish and Christian religious groups in co-ordinating religion with the latest economic and social dictates of the government.

NATIONAL HADASSAH DRIVE

The month of November has been set aside by National Hadassah for the purpose of increasing the membership in all its chapters. The Brooklyn chapter announces that its endeavors to gain recruits will be inaugurated at a reception and tea to be given by Mrs. Ralph Jonas tomorrow afternoon. A musical program has been arranged and the speakers will be Mrs. Anna Moscowitz Kross and Dr. Simon Cohen, rabbi emeritus of Union Temple, who recently returned from a visit to Palestine. Mrs. Edward Jacobs, former national president of Hadassah, who spent a year in Palestine and who has been elected a trustee of the Hebrew University Hospital in Jerusalem, will be among the guests.

A Ping Pong Exhibition for the benefit of Hadassah will be given on November 18 at the home of Mrs. Thel Jacoff. The participants will be Marcus Schussheim, United States champion for seven years; Charles Schiff, Eastern Champion; Sam Silverman, Brooklyn Champion, and Mrs. S. Pockrose, woman’s champion. A dance and supper will follow the exhibition. The event is being sponsored by Mrs. Pockrose and Mrs. E. Jackoff, both very active in the Deborah Group of Brooklyn Hadassah.

The Bay Ridge Group of Hadassah is giving a bridge for the benefit of the Hadassah Medical organization in Palestine on November 15 at the B’nai Israel Community Center. Mrs. Stephen S. Wise is to be the guest speaker.

THE HORIZON CLUB

The bi-monthly meeting of the Horizon Club will take place tomorrow afternoon at the Hotel Mayflower. The speaker of the afternoon will be Samuel B. Harrison, author of “Yonder Lies Jericho”. The club is under the direction of Mrs. Caroline Greenfield. On November 27, Dr. Albert Brandt, an exile from Germany who is now a member of an American university, will discuss the situation in Germany. Mrs. Stephen S. Wise will also speak about the plight of the Jews in Germany.
