Twenty-five Jews who were ordered by the government of Santo Domingo to leave that country at once will be enabled to go elsewhere in safety with the aid of a sum of money appropriated for that purpose by the board of directors of HIAS in New York.
The Santo Domingan Jews were arrested on the charge that they engaged in business, which, as foreigners, they may not do. All were sentenced to deportation, but the government has no money for such purposes and the usual procedure in such cases is to escort the individuals to be deported to the Haitian border, where they are left to the mercy of the border-watch.
