The warning of Dr. Hjalmar Schacht, president of the Reichsbank, regarding Germany’s external obligations, issued last night in the course of his address before the German Chamber of Commerce of Switzerland at Basle, was echoed here today in the German press which featured Dr. Schacht’s speech and put the blame on the boycott of German goods by Jews and others.
Influential German newspapers today declare that it is clear that the anti-German boycott has affected German ability to pay the country’s obligations.
Dr. Schacht in his speech said that the boycott of German exports had been especially felt in America, England and the Scandinavian countries. He criticized these nations for tolerating a boycott “contrary to their own interests.”
