A second attempt to extort money from Lessing J. Rosenwald, philanthropist and chairman of the board of Sears, Roebuck and Company, failed to day when police arrested William Schultze, 34, a milk dealer, in connection with the attempted extortion plot. Schultze is said to have given the police a confession.
Threatening letters were sent Mr. Rosenwald demanding the payment of $30,000 under the threat of bodily harm if the money was not forth-coming. Mr. Rosenwald turned the letters over to the police who arrested Schultze after setting a trap for the sender of the threats. A similar attempt was made against Mr. Rosenwald last April.
