Isidore Hershfield, consel of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Socity (HIAS), appeared before the House Committee on Immigration and Nuturalization and advocated the passage of bills which would make were only temporarily admitted to the United States and whose status has changed while here, to be admitted permanently without being requlred to leave the United States for a foring country and there obtain a new visa. This legistation would make it possible for alien women here temporarily and who become the wives of American citizens, students, clergymen, and professors, to obtain a permanent status without the trouble and expense of going abord for a new visa.
