“Yellow passports” have been introduced for Jewish students at Austrian universities and other sicial and cultural institutions.
The Jewish Student Union immediately filed with the proper authorities a protest against such an identitication system, basing its objections upon the recent ruling to the effect that universities and similar institutions would be under the supervision of a special government commission to insure the administration of such institutions in the spirit of the government.
Three kinds of registration cards are now being isuued to students, the Arbeiter Zeitung learns. Aryans receive Class A certificates, foreigners are in Class B and Jews in Class C.
Officially, however, the last category is reserved for guests, Since according go the anti-Semitic theory Jews are neither Aryans nor foreigners, they are included among the guests. This classification excludes them from most university functions and prevents their benefiting from university facilities although Jewish students, like the Aryans, are compelled to contribute regularly for university activities. These contributions are in addition to the regular university fees.
