German citizens by a large majority oppose the anti-Semitic persecution conducted by Hitler and the Nazis, John George Bucher, fellow of the Royal Geographic society of London, told the College Women’s Society here today. Bucher toured Germany recently.
Bucher described the Nazi handling of the Jewish problem as “Hitler’s major mistake” and as the cause of the unified world opinion antagonistic to Hitler.
Bucher questioned Nazi figures of a purported decline in German unemployment. He also doubted that the present rift in the German church will be strong enough to serve as a counter-revolutionary force. If free expression of political opinion were restored Germany, the Communist party would become the second strongest at once, Bucher said.
