Vaterland fround, which includes the Heimwehr, the clericals the other pro-Dollfuss elements, has submitted numerous extreme anti-Semitic demands to Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss in the form of an ultimatum, it became known today.
While the exact text of the ultimatum is being kept seret, it is, however, understood that in addition to demanding the curtailment of the constifutional rights enjoyed by Austrian Jews, the challenge insists that the Dollfuss regime and the professions of the Jews. A demand is also made that even private industrialists be compelled to empoy members of the Vaterlandfront from which all Jews are barred.
At the same time the Antisemitenbund (Anti-Semitic League), which includes the Austrian Nazis as well as government supporters who agree with the Nazis on the Jewish question, issued a proclamation setting forth its anti-Jewish program.
ADOPT ARYAN MYTH
The League, the proclamation declared, does not consider the Jews as members of the Austrian nation of the Austrian national family. The solution of the Austrian Jewish problem lies in declaring the Jews “a national minority of an alien race,” which would eatablish their inequality with the Aryans, it continued.
The proclamation also proposed a numerus clausus, proportionate to the Jewish poputation, for lawyers, judgex, notaries and doctors. This would ensure Austrians representation for Austrians and Jewish representation for the Jews, the document maintatined.
Intermarriage should be probibied and the racial principle carried out in all fields in order to ensure the contry’s freedom from Jewish aliens, the declaration read. Furthermore, a census is asked to establish the extent of Austria’s “Jewification”-that is to discover the number of inter marriages the number of Christians of Jewish origin and the number of Jews.
TO TEACH HATRED
The final point in the proclamation proposes that adults be taught “the evils of Jewish influence upon the country.” The ultimatum, following the usual custom of the Nazis, is filled with abusive statements about the Austrian Jews.
A high official of the Austrian Foreign Official informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “Jews need not fear anti-Semitic legislation under the present government.” However, he admitted that leading government members are pressing for a numerus clausus.
WOMEN AIDING JEWISH BLIND HOLD LUNCHEON TOMORROW
The women’s division of the New York Guild for the Jewish Blind will hold its annual luncheon and open meeting at the Metropolis Club tomorrow. Mrs. D. Emil Klein, president, will be chairman of the luncheon. Dr. Stephen s. Wise and Mrs. David E. Goldfarb will address the gathering.
