The World Union for Progressive Judaism has chosen July 6 to 10 as the dates for its forthcoming international conference in Paris.
The central subject for discussion will be “Judaism and Human Destiny.”The youth organizations will arrange a special meeting to discuss ” what Youth con contribute to Progressive Judaism,”both from a theoretical and practical aspect.
News of the conference was received from Lily H. Montagu,following a meeting of the governing body of the World Union on January 29 in London.Dr. Israel Mattuck presided and the representatives included a member of one of the English progressive youth groups.
Mr.Heinrich Stern gave a report of the progressive,which he had visted as representative of the World Union Executive.An interesting account of the community in Melbourne was considered. Membership there was growing.
The organizer of the World Union,Frau Goldstein,described her visit to Budapest,where she held successful meetings, both among the general Jewish community and among the youth.Serious work on progressive lines has been undertaken in Vienna,where she is working at the present time.
The report from south Africa showed that the new progressive Jewish congregation in Johannesburg was making excellent progress and that a site has been purchased for a synagogue.
Reports were also received that progressive Jewish groups were in the course of organization in countries where now there are no progressive Jewish congregations.
