The fiftieth anniversary of the first private Jewish grove planted in Palestine was observed at a gathering of over three hundred representatives of every institution and class of Jewish life in Palestine, including many representatives of the pre-War Yishub, to congratulate Mrs. Sarah Ita Fellman, the original owner of the grove and window of the man who planted it.
Dov Fellman, her husband, came from Hezritch, in Poland, fifty years ago, bringing over hs young wife and family soon after, and planted his grove at Summeil, about five kilimetres outside Jaffa. It was at that time a wild and desolate neighborhood, in which there was a Bedouin camp. He brought wich him a rabbi, who was also a shochet and teacher, to give his six young children a thorough Jewish education. The rabbi, a man of nearly ninety, was present at the anniversary reception.
Dov Feliman died of sunstroke a year after his arrival, and his young widow carried numerous obstacles and succeeded in developing her grove and bringing up her family, and has managed to preserve intact the grove planted by her husband.
