3,190 Transferred to Biro-bidjan

Six hundred and twenty-two families and 892 individuals, 3,190 souls in all, were transfered by the government to Biro Bidjan, projected Jewish republic in the Far East, during 1933, official figures now available state.

The quota for 1934 will he be tween ten and twelve thousand. In official quarters the hope is expressed that migration to Biro Bidjan will be stimulated this year by exemptions and privileges recently ordered for Siberian peasants.

The quota for 1933, originally 25,000, was later reduced to 17,000 and then to 7,000. The Emes, local Yiddish Communist daily, declares that Ozet (Society for Establishment of Jews on Land) committees in various centers did not word to fill the quota.
