Outbreak of a ‘war’ between local Nazis and anti-Fascists here was indicated as an aftermath of the visit of Lord Dudley Marley, labor member of the visit of Lord Dudley Marley, Labor member of the Brithish House of Lords, to address a huge massmeeting for the relief of victims of German Fascism.

Just before Marley’s arrival, letters were sent anonymously to ever member of the Marley recoption committee containing leaflet reprinst of an editorial in the New York Herald Tribune which depicted the radical British laberite as a preacher of “Suave bolshevism” and ” red pacifism.” The leaflets were sent by local Nazi leaders, it was said, in an effort to get a withdrawal of teh hosts from the committee.

Again, in the midst of the peer’s address to an overflowing throng in the auditorium, whil Marley was recounting atrocities committed by Hitlerites, a half dozen Nazi listeners suddenly rose and marched out of the room, their hands raised high in the Hitler salute. Boos and hisses from other members of the audience followed them out of the room.

These events were viewed as a sign that both Nazis and anti-Fascist may attempt here arter to disrupt each other’s meetings, and that the fight dover Fascism may actually bring local acts of physical violence.

Widespread discussion has been stirred by the action of WTMJ. a radio station oparate by the Milwaukee Journal, in rejecting a scheduled broadcast by Lord Marley unless he revised his talk to eliminate “propaganda and controversy.” WISN, a rival station, later turned over its facilities for a fifteen-minute Marley address.

A division among Socialists over collaboration in the Marley reciption was indicated here. Mayor Hoan withdrew his name from the reception committee, though he did later arrange a momentary meeting with Lord Marley in his office. Several other Socialist dropped their names from the committee, on reputed party orders because Lord Marley’s tour in this country alleg dly in being sponsored by Communist sources.
