The Rev. Dr. Peter Ainsfine, pastor of the Christian Temple, who was known internationally for his efforts at promotion of harmony between religious denominations, died yesterday at the Union Memorial Hospital. He was 66 years old.
At the time of alfred E. Smith’s campaign for the Presidency he expressed the hope that a Catholic or a Jew Would some time be President, and declad that were it not for Smith’s Tammany connections and the liquor question, the fact that he was a Catholic would not “cut much figure.”
In 1922 Dr. Ainslie condemned sanction by the Mayor of Baltimore of a Ku Klux Klan parade in calling the organization the “sworn enemy of the Jew, the Negro and the Roman Catholic.”
