Leaders of the group explained that they could never vote for the clause adopted since they held that the critical situation of world Jewry necessitated the union of all Jewish groups and elements to fight for all Jewish causes. Over 400 delegates at the Sunday conferece voted for the resolution, 200 voted against it and a large group abstained from voting altogether.
When the Socialist Zionist group walked out, the Jewish Socialists, the trade union groups, and the large Workmen’s Circle delegation remained and elected permanent officials.
B. C. Vladeck, general manger of the Jewish Daily Forward was elected chairman, J. Baskin, secretary, and David Dubinsky, treasurer. Joseph Scholossberg, Morris Feinstone, Max Zaritsky, Alexander Kahn and Sol Rifkin are vicepresidents.
The newly elected officers and the committee which arranged the conference constitute the executive committee of the Jewish Workers’ Committee for Jewish Affairs.
Negotiations are said to be proceeding between the two groups in order to achieve a compromise that will restore unity between the two groups.
