A number of Jewish immigrants were refused permission to land in Brazil because the Minister of Labor had not authorized the papers on the strength of which the immigrants were coming here.

The passports of the immigrants had been vised by Brazilian consuls abroad, but according to the new regulations which have been ordered for all Brazilian ports such vise is insufficient.

As a result of the new ruling a number of the immigrants were returned. A few of the Jewish voyagers were permittec, to land when Jewish institutions and the Polish consul intervened for them. An attempt is being made to legalize documents issued up to the present to persons wishing to bring others here. It was declared, however, that in the future no one should begin his journey unless his papers have been authorized by the Minister of Labor.
