The University of Washington is sponsoring the showing of German-made films in its foreign language film series, Prof. Glenn Hughes, nationally known playwright and director of the series, declared today, “Because they’re money makers and if we don’t run them, the whole foreign film series would be doomed.”

Dr. Hughes, director of the division of drama at the University of Washington, said that “No revenue from the films goes to Germany. These films, in which Jewish actors take a leading part, were made before the Nazi regime came into power, and were bought outright by the New York distributors from whom we rent the films.”

Dr. Hughes. whose wife, Babette Hughes, is a Jewess, declared that he had received “a few complaints” about the German films from Jewish friends. The German film, “M,” was exhibited in the foreign film series Friday.
