Goebbels Orders an ‘aryan’ Stage

Paul Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda, today issued an order for the dismissal of all “non-Aryans” from the German stage.

The order followed a complaint published in the Voelkischer Beobachter, that the Jews were regaining control of the theatre.

“Non-Aryans who had disappeared and who had apparently for the most part fied abroad are again appearing in Berlin theatres, variety shows and cabarets,” read the decree, pointing out that the right to act in Germany implied membership in the Theatre Chamber, which bars “non-Aryans.”
