The Kolo, club of the Jewish deputies in the Sejm, today informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that although the declaration made by the government statesman in the Senate that the new economic law will not enter into effect immediately is of no judicial importance, it nevertheless has had a pacifying effect on Jewish circles. Jewish groups, the Kolo statement declared, have confidence in the government statement that the law will not enter into effect for the next few years and that the new law “does not aim to harm non-Polish merchants and artisans.”
The clause in the new economic law, adopted last week by the Polish Sejm which requires educational qualifications for all persons engaged in industry and trade will not enter into effect immediately, the spokesman for the Minister of Trade announced officially in the Senate. He added that until next year, the question will remain theoretical rather than actual. The law originally carried with it an amendment postponing for three years the coming into effect of the law. The Sejm struck that provision out and instead gave the Minister of Trade power to set the date himself.
