RABBI JOSEPH ZEITLIN, Temple Ansche Chesed, West End avenue and 100th street: “Passover reminds us that one of the virtues that has helped preserve the Jewish people throughout the ages has been their remarkable sense of optimism. For in its broadest sense, optimism is a manifestation of faith and hope. It has been this blessed gift which our people posses that has helped them to laugh at misfortune and fortify themselves in the conviction that in spite of all the oppression and persecution, righteousness will ultimately prevail. The sinister force of Nazism has tried to eradicate this spirit of faith from the hearts of the Jews, but it has had the very opposite result of arousing and augmenting the faith of the Jew.”
