The anti-Semitic press here is very much excited over the assurances recently given to Dr. Desidor Friedmann, president of the Jewish community of this city, by the Chancellor, regarding the status of the Austrian Jews.

According to a publication in Morgen and Sunn-und Montagszeitung, it is an established fact that “the provisions of the peace treaty rule out any possibility of changes being made in regard to the citizenship status of the Austrian Jews.”

The anti-Semitic paper Oesterreichische Beobachter says: “The Jews invoke St. Germain.” The Wiener Neueste Nachrichten refers to the Jewish people here as “defenders of the dictated treaty.” The paper adds, “It is provocative that in the whole of Austria the Jewish papers alone have taken their stand by the peace treaty of St. Germain. There is not a word in the peace treaty to prevent application of the numerus clausus.”
