Oscar Levy Holds ‘israelism’ is Father of Modern Anti-semitism

That Anti-Semitism in Germany was inspired by the German people and not by their rulers, that German hatred of the Jew is deep-rooted psychologically and is really a jealousy of likeness, and that Nazism is an unconscious movement by the Germans against something that has been part of them for centuries, is the belief of Oscar Levy, British Jewish scholar, now residing at Cannes, France.

As evidence he enumerates many similarities between the German Gentile and the Jew.

“Both believe themselves a chosen people and seek isolation. Both worship what is essentially the Old-Testament God of War–Jehovah. Both are ruled by wonderful race myths and guided by a stubborn pride of blood. Both are commercial, materialistic, and extremely practical.” And finally, the divinity of the state, for both of them, is the underlying structure of their politics as, he maintains, that Zionism and Hegelian Theocracy are actually one and the same thing because both are trying to create what Hegel once called a “Divine State,” inhabited by chosen people only, with a mission to the outer world.

In elaborating his theory, which is almost identical to one advanced by Benjamin de Casseres recently, Levy says: “Israel infected the whole world with the Chosen People Idea and then was re-infected by its own bacillus which it now chooses to cultivate in a land formerly its own.”

By turning Israel’s Message and Messianism against its originators, the German people, who are the principal sufferers from the Jewish germ, have proved to the world how thoroughly Jewish thought has conquered them.

Hitlerism or modern Germanism, in renouncing Israel is really a revolt against a superior philosophy and the Hitlerites are really the Zionists of Christendom. In effect modern nationalism in its acute and frenzied German form, and even in its more subdued forms in other countries, is nothing but a Jewish heresy. On the other hand, modern Bolshevistic Internationalism is materially a Christian heresy. But even here the sinister hand of Israel functioned by producing the theoretician and prophet of the Communist Revolution, Karl Marx, and many of its outstanding practitioners, among whom the banished Trotsky is most prominent.

These movements occur in vicious circles, according to Levy. Marx got his Communistic creed, not from the New Testament, but in a roundabout way from German philosophy, particularly from Hegel. The ruthless creed of the Nazis springs, not from German thought, but by a long process of absorption from sheer Israelism. Jews infect Gentiles and then Gentiles re-infect Jews. First the disciples of Christ, the Jewish Apostles, spread Christianity throughout the world, and then Christianity, in an heretical form, returns to the Jews, who again become its principal apostles.

Actually, then, according to the Levy theory, all our present day values, Hitlerism and Bolshevism, intense nationalism and communist internationalism are of Jewish origin; and the social eruptions, like Hitlerism in Germany, are attempts to shake off the deep imprints of this origin.
