Chicago Mayor Rescinds Ban on Picture of Hitler Terror

Moviegoers here will be able to see “Hitler’s Reign of Terror,” but the picture will be released and advertised simply as “Hitler’s Reign.”

This was the decision made today by Mayor Edward J. Kelley, who revoked his stand of the previous day banning the opening of the film at the Majestic Theatre.

Mayor Kelley reissued the permit he had drawn back yesterday after Messrs. Jones, Linnick and Schaeffer, Majestic Theatre managers, had agreed to eradicate the word “terror” from the scene.

No scenes of the picture will be deleted, however, it was emphatically stated at the theatre. Riot scenes and all will be flashed on the screen.

The latest decision of Mayor Kelley comes as a reprimand to Dr. Hans Luther, German Ambassador at Washington, and Dr. Rolf L. Jaeger, German Consul in Chicago, who were stated to have persuaded Mayor Kelley to prohibit the film’s showing.
