Announcement here today that the Legislature will meet next Monday but adjourn on Tuesday until after May 15 makes outlook for passage of the much-discussed Rafferty Bill against vicious propaganda all the more unlikely.
In view of the fact that the annual appropriations bill is to be introduced in the Legislature Monday it is very problematical whether the Senate will even be asked to consider the Rafferty Bill, even though the Assembly has already passed the measure. However, on Saturday and Sunday there will be a week-end conference in Atlantic City of the joint Republican conference committee and it is possible the matter will be considered among the legislation to be acted upon before Tuesday recess, although due cognizance must be taken of the fact that Assemblyman Rafferty, sponsor of the measure, is the Democratic minority leader.
The adjournment over May 15 will be taken primarily because of the state primary election campaign which is now on in full force.
