To The Editor,

The Jewish Daily Bulletin:

AN APPEAL

We invoke the principle of Pidyon Shevouim (“Ransoming of the Captives”) in order to give such legitimate and proper aid to the young three men, Stavsky, Rosenblatt and Achimeier, now on trial in Jerusalem on the charge of complicity in the murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff.

At this distance from the scene of the crime, and during the process of the trial, we make no attempt to pass judgment either on the accused, nor the procedure of the trial itself. We are, however, deeply concerned that these young men be given every opportunity to defend themselves adequately.

An appeal has reached us from Rabbi Kook, the revered chief Rabbi of Palestine, with whom many of the leading Jewish citizens have associated themselves, asking for aid in providing funds to cover the considerable expenses of the defense. To this the undersigned willingly respond, and in their turn urge all those mindful of fair play to cooperate in this simple, non-partisan duty.

At the present moment no more than $7,500 is expected in the United States, and we ask every Jew to contribute. Every donation large or small will be welcomed by us, not only for the practical aid involved, but as evidence that an honored morale still sways the Jewish people.

Checks, etc., should be made payable to : Stavsky Defense Committee, Suite 1627-5th Avenue Hotel, 5th avenue and 9th street, New York, N.Y.

Non-Partisan Committee for the Defense of Stavsky, Rosenblatt and Achimeir: Dr. Abraham Coralnik, chairman; Jacob de Haas, co-chairman; Prof. Chaim Tchernowitz, treasurer; Irving Bunim, associate treasurer; Rabbi Wolf Gold, Rabbi H.F. Epstein, St. Louis, Missouri; Rabbi Joseph Lookstein, Isaac Allen, Mrs. Sarah Brandes, Dr. P. Churgin, B.Z. Goldberg, Mordecai Danzis, Dr. David Shecket, Moses H. Hoenig, Edward S. Silver, Harry G. Fromberg, Robert Marwil, Detroit; Rabbi Dr. A.M. Hershman, Detroit.
