“Jews Don’t Like Churches” is the title of a front-page article in the Ukrainian Daily Svoboda, the organ of the Ukrainian National Association, issued here.

The article tells of a decision of Soviet authorities to transfer the seat of the Ukrainian government from Kharkov to Kiev this fall when sites of a number of churches in the latter city will be used for the erection of model army barracks. The barracks are to be erected where the ancient Pechersky Monastery now stands.

“Bolsheviks,” the article declares, “have already established there an anti-religious museum, but that is not enough for them. For that purpose they have been subscribing to a loan.

“But we are not surprised at that, for we know that Jewry is uncomfortable in church.”

Svoboda displays a larger reproduction of the NRA Blue Eagle than is customary for a newspaper. With “We Do Our Part,” it is the most conspicuous feature of the front page.
