Mayor Promises to Protect Jews

Strict measures will be taken to end the series of night attacks on the Jews of Wilno by members of the National Democratic and the National Radical parties and by Polish Nazis, the mayor of this city promised a Jewish delegation which called upon him today to protect the outrages.

To M. Wygodsky, head of the Wilno Jewish community, and Chief Rabbi Rubenstein, the mayor pledged that the police would take severe measures to prevent any recurrence of the disorders and to bring the guilty to justice.

One Endek student was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for his part in assaulting Jews on the streets of the city and several young disciples of the party were expelled from the high schools for participating in the gang a activities.
