Fourteen out of a total of twenty-five Jewish colonies devoted to raising oranges employed Jewish labor exclusively, according to a report issued today which contained results of a survey taken by the Jewish Agency for Palestine.
According to the figures of the Agency, at the end of February there were 1,044 orange groves in Palestine operated by Jews, 6,800 laborers and 4,548 Arab laborers.
The report is significant in view of the antipathetic attitude taken by the Histadruth, labor federation, toward the employment of non-Jewish labor by Jewish organizations, regardless of whether they are construction outfits, orange groves or farms.
Only this week the government decreed that strikes and picketing against Jewish farmers employing Arab labor is unlawful. At the present moment a wave of protest is sweeping Palestine because of the government policy, which includes a limitation on entry.
