The New York campaign of the United Jewish Appeal, which will be inaugurated Sunday evening at the Hotel Commodore, will be given additional momentum at noon today when presidents and rabbis of Manhattan’s leading congregations meet at the Hotel Commodore to plan cooperation with the German Jewish relief drive, which has a quota of $1,200,000.
Names of the chairmen of twenty-five different trades, industries and professions which are in the midst of intensive campaign activities to assist the United Jewish Appeal were also announced yesterday. All these groups are under the direction of the Trades Council, of which Michael Schaap is chairman and Samuel Blitz, executive director.
Among those represented in today’s conference are Samuel Sternberg, Bernard Semel, William Fineberg, Elias A. Cohen, Harry N. Wessel, Isaac Siegel, Frederick Margarten and Morris Levin. Rabbis who will be at the conference are J. X. Cohen, Israel Goldstein, Ira Eisenstein, William Rosenblum, Elias Solomon, Leo Jung, Ernest Trattner, David de Sola Pool, Louis I. Israel Silberman, president of the Community Center, is chairman of the committee. Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver of Cleveland will be the guest speaker. Rabbi Silver is a boyhood friend of Mr. Cohen.
