Mrs. Samuel W. Halprin, national president of Hadassah, returned from a two months’ visit to Palestine Friday. During her stay she made a study of the economic and social adjustments of the New German immigrants there. Her immediate program includes conferences with prominent Hadassah and Hebrew University leaders. On May 14 she will address the model regional conference of the Lower New York State Region of Hadassah at the Edison Hotel. Two days later, at a dinner at the home of Dr. Nathan Ratnoff, chairman of the American Jewish Physicians’ Committee, she will take part in a discussion with Dr. S. S. Goldwater, head of the New York City Department of Hospitals, and Dr. Judah L. Magnes, chancellor of the University on Mount Scopus.

At a luncheon in the Central Park Casino last Tuesday the women’s organization of the Free Synagogue discussed “Women and the New Design for Living” under the leadership of their chairman, Mrs. Sidney Goldstein. Dr. Stephen S. Wise harangued his flock jovially for a bit, and left it to his wife to urge her fellow sisterhood members to join the United Jewish Appeal. Miss Pearl S. Bernstein, secretary to the Board of Estimate, recounted the accomplishments of women in the field of politics and civic endeavor, a striking instance of which is her own career. Arthur Guiterman, the rhymster, also addressed the assembled women.

Mrs. Mae Epstein has recently been elected chairman of the Bensonhurst Ivriah, with Mrs. I. Bernstein and Mrs. Joseph Hevesh as co-chairmen, Mrs. Joseph Ivry as treasurer, and Mrs. Max Markowitz corresponding secretary. Rabbis Louis D. Gross and Israel Elfenbein are current lecturers at their weekly cultural meetings.
