It was learned yesterday that the Certified Yeast Company, complainants in a suit for $450,000 against the Jewish Bakers Voice, the Bakers and Consumers Yeast Company, and the Ideal Yeast Company, will have subpoenaed more than a score of witnesses when the case comes up before the Brooklyn Supreme Court tomorrow morning.
The suit, instituted as a result of alleged attacks by the Jewish Bakers Voice last year, has gained widespread interest in Jewish circles. Abe Schwartz and Morris Greenberg, owners of the Certified Yeast Company, charge the defendants with having “deliberately and maliciously attempted to prevent the plaintiff’s customers and other Jewish bakers from purchasing the plaintiff’s products, intending to destroy the good will of the plaintiff,” according to the complaint. The case has been under prosecution since last July, and was adjourned on May 3.
In August last year the plaintiffs invited an investigation of their merchandise by the American League for the Defense of Jewish Rights, Inc. Ezekiel Rabinowitz, secretary, reported that the investigation “has convinced us beyond a reasonable doubt that the Certified yeast sold by you is not of German origin and moreover does not contain any ingredients imported from Germany.”
In January the Certified Yeast Corporation was absolved by the Jewish Court of Arbitration from suspicion of selling yeast manufactured in Germany. Judges on this occasion were Bernard S. Deutsch, David Sarnoff and Dr. Israel Goldstein.
