Leslie Lyell, former star of the Brooklyn Wanderers, Frank Abraham, former centre half on the Brookhattans and Jack London, captain of the Hatikvoh’s crack first team are the coaches of the three teams.

HAKOAH’S

The Hakoah eleven is another famous Jewish soccer team which has been in existence now for more than twelve years. In its long life it has played in many leagues, among which were the famous International, (a semi-pro outfit) the Jewish Soccer League, the Hebrew American League, and more recently with the German American Soccer League.

However, we understand that there is considerable anti-Semitic feeling rampant in this league at present.

Mr. Green, who is very active in Hakoah affairs says, “When the Hakoah teams travel away from home to play on their opponent’s field, they have received much rough treatment from the German players. I personally remember several months ago when we played against the Hota at Huegenout Park, I, as a player for the Hakoah, had to protect myself and was forced into several fights with the Hota players.

“But,” our informer goes on to say, “the Hakoah players can take it and dish it out even better.”

Mr. Green continues, “The Hakoah players have always been the leading Jewish national soccer club in the country. It always had from three to five teams in league games every season and the eleven was always the aspiration of every young Jewish player who had ambition, courage, and talent. The best players of every team come to the Hakoahs to play for us.”

Many brilliant athletes have been developed while playing for the Hakoah’s, namely, Phil Slone, of Brookhattan; Sid Breitbart, Chester Marks, Charles Young and numerous others.

The present team’s roster includes such stellar soccerites as Freud, Siegel, Schwartz, Bartfeld, Ringler, Scholom, Kushner, M. Liss, Novick, Abe Saager, Max Rhuback, and Landman.
