Police Patrols Increased in Expectation of Further Trouble

Five Revisionist Zionists were severely injured in Haifa today as Revisionists in that city. Jerusalem and Tel Aviv demonstrated in protest against the continued incarceration of Aba Achimeier.

In Jerusalem about 200 Revisionists gathered in front of the courthouse and attempted to march to the jail in which Achimeier is a prisoner. Police dispersed the procession quickly and peacefully.

The Tel Aviv demonstration took place in front of the Central Street Synagogue as worshippers left the building.

Police patrols in both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv were increased in the expectation of trouble, but the pro- Achimeier demonstrations ended peacefully.

ASKS RELEASE FOR ACHIMEIER

Horace Samuel, attorney for Aba Achimeier, Revisionist Zionist theorist now on the third day of his hunger strike, today appealed directly to High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope to release Achimeier on bail.

Achimeier’s health has been considerably affected by his fast. The Revisionist leader is very weak and is unable to stand on his feet. His hunger strike is a direct protest against the refusal of the police to free him on bail. Last week Achimeier, who was one of three defendants in the trial of the men accused of murdering Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, was released when the court held that there was not enough evidence to warrant the accusation that he “counseled and procured the murder of Dr. Arlosoroff.”

He was rearrested by police and charged with being the leader of the allegedly secret terroristic organization, Brith Habiryonim. The organization was discovered by the police last July during their investigation of the murder of Dr. Arlosoroff. About thirty Revisionists were arrested and charged with membership in the group. All the defendants, with the exception of Achimeier, were released on bail of $125.

Police officials, who appear to regard Achimeier as a dangerous individual, refused to give their assent to his release on bail. The District Court refused to intervene. An appeal to the High Court is pending.

ZVI ROSENBLATT PROTESTS INNOCENCE OF MURDER

“I had no reason to kill Arlosoroff.” Zvi Rosenblatt, Zionist Revisionist held with Abraham Stavsky for the murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff at Tel Aviv last June, said in his own behalf at the conclusion of the dramatic fourth week of the trial.

In his testimony Rosenblatt denied he had ever spoken with Moshe Cohen, police agent, concerning the murder of Arlosoroff.

“I remember his entering my cell,” Rosenblatt said. “I was reading a typewritten article by Vladimir Jabotinsky on Moscow methods. In the article, which had been smuggled in, Jabotinsky said Palestine police were adopting OGPU methods. Cohen asked me what I was reading and I told him it was an article by Jabotinsky. We spoke no more. I haven’t seen him since. I had no reason to kill Arlosoroff.”

Cross-examined concerning his relations with Abdul Mejid, Arab convict who said during the preliminary hearings that he had killed Arlosoroff and later retracted this testimony, Rosenblatt said:

“Mejid used to greet us and others with the word ‘Shalom’ every time we passed his cell. I never asked Mejid to take the blame. I never told him I killed Arlosoroff. I never showed him any plans. I have never given him any details regarding our alleged crime.

“I was present once when Mejid spoke to Stavsky from his cell. He told Stavsky that the police had discovered a blood stain on Mejid’s trousers.”

Shown his shoes, casts of which had been made, Rosenblatt declared to the court that he did not wear those shoes in June at all. (The murder was committed on June 16.)
