Eliza Murmis, Jewish teacher of biology at the Burmeister School, a German high school here, has resigned from her position with the institution because it has submitted to Nazi domination.

In a letter to the director of the school Miss Murmis wrote:

“Whereas the school has accepted the Hitler regime, the principles of which constitute an insult to the conscience of every educated person, and whereas these Hitlerite principles are in opposition to the humane democratic spirit of the Argentine constitution, I, as an Argentinian teacher, resign from the natural history department of the aforesaid Burmeister school.”

Miss Murmis’ letter received much favorable comment in the press, the Socialist newspaper La Vanguardia holding her up as an example for all Argentine intellectuals to follow.

ANOTHER SCHOOL NAZIFIED

Several new facts have been brought out in connection with the Humboldt school, founded twenty-four years ago by Germans who were liberals and Socialists. The school recently acquired a Nazi board of directors, but the fact of the matter is that even before the official announcement to that effect the institution had been administered in the German National Socialist spirit. At present the swastika flies over assemblies at the school and the director has even been known to force a Jewish teacher to lead his class on an excursion where that flag was displayed. ######### brought to light about the school is the fact that two Jewish teachers are still employed there and that in the room of the director there is a portrait of Alfredo Hirsh, wealthy German Jew who supports the school and its director.

The director, Albicker, plays a dual part. He tells the Jews that he is leading the Nazis by the nose and assures the Nazis that he is merely taking advantage of and fooling the Jews. However, it is only the Jews who are being misled. With the exception of the two Jewish teachers the rest of the staff is Nazi. The Hitlerite salute is the rule in the school, and displayed on one of the walls is the Nazi bulletin Mitteillungsblatt, replete with insults and misrepresentations of the Jewish people.
