Premier Karlis Ulmanis who is now governing Latvia under proclamation of a state of emergency, today received a delegation of Jewish leaders composed of the former members of parliament, Nurolk, Dublin and Wittenberg. The delegation formally expressed to the Premier the support of the Jewish population and its wishes for the success of the new government in its work of reorganizing the Latvian governmental system on a firmer basis.
M. Nurok expressed the desire that all citizens of Lativa, without regard to nationality, would be enabled to live together in peace.
“That is also my desire,” Premier Ulmains responded. He declared that there would be no action taken to limit Jewish rights and that the government would not take steps damaging to the Zionist movement. The premier also stated that the existence of Jewish schools in Latvia was assured.
