A warning to Poland that unless she checks the anti-Semitic Naras speedily she may soon find herself a victim of Nazi conquest, was sounded last night by former Congressman Nathan D. Perlman, a vice-president of the American Jewish Congress, who addressed the opening session of the twenty-sixth annual convention of the Federation of Polish Jews of America here.
The Federation took under advisement Mr. Perlman’s plea that it join in formal protestations to the Polish authorities regarding what was termed a violation of the minorities rights, protection clauses, resulting from continuous attacks of the Naras. German Nazis are subsidizing the Naras, Mr. Perlman charged. He claimed that the forthcoming visit of Goebbels to Warsaw this month is definitely intended to advance the cause of the Nazis. He attributed the failure of the Polish government to curb the Naras either to the insincerity of its claims of impartial treatment for the Jews or to its being too weak. He expressed the hope that the convention will see fit to join with the American Jewish Congress in united action of all Jewish groups in the United States.
Benjamin Winter, president of the federation, rendered his annual report, in which he made a comprehensive review of the year’s activities, stressing “our excellent relations with the Polish Consulates.” He brought out the great practical value of the organization’s medical service.
