Rossini’s four-act opera “Moses” will be produced for the first time in the United States, at the New York Coliseum on July 14 and 15. It is expected to prove one of the most spectacular operatic presentations. Alfredo Salmaggi, the producer, intends to make of it a grand opera pageant similar to Italian production.
Scenery for “Moses” will be placed on a stage, now under construction, 180 feet wide and 195 feet in depth. Special provisions are being made to show the parting of the Red Sea in the final scene. In addition to the principals, it is intended to show the “Egyptians and the Children of Israel numbering 2,500 of each.”
