Ten students were graduated Friday morning from Public School 401, the School for Crippled and Cardiac Children, in the auditorium of the specially constructed building at 157 Henry street. The edifice was donated in 1919 by Emanuel Lehman, uncle of Governor Lehman, for the use of the city’s invalid children.
Speakers were Dr. Elliott Love-joy, dean of the Ethical Culture School; Miss Mary Frasca, secretary and representative of Mayor LaGuardia, and Mrs. Herbert Lehman. Plays were presented by the kindergarten and upper classes. Participants made their own costumes, despite their handicaps. One of the graduates, under treatment for a cardiac ailment, is a candidate for the Samuel Stern scholarship, an award open to city-wide competition, it was announced.
All alumni will continue their educations in higher schools.
