The anti-Semitic policy of the municipal health department has forced Austria’s most famous child specialist, Professor Hugo Knoepfelmacher, to resign as director of the Vienna Municipal Children’s Hospital, it was learned today. The resignation was made as a protest against the elimination from the hospital of his Jewish assistants.

Immediately responsible for Dr. Knoepfelmacher’s action, it was learned, was the step taken by the health department in refusing to accept the noted surgeon’s suggestion that his place, while away on a month’s vacation, be taken by a Jewish physician he recommended. Instead, the department forced him to take in an “Aryan” doctor from Tyrol who had never had previous experience in a children’s hospital.

Dr. Knoepfelmacher has educated thousands of child specialists at this hospital who have since made names for themselves all over the world.
