Poultry Slaughterers Charge Wholesalers’ Drive on Them

Slaughterers of kosher poultry cast about desperately all day yesterday for salvation, charging that poultry wholesalers, having settled with the commission merchants, turned upon them in a campaign to discharge slaughterers, cut wages and force them to speed up slaughtering.

During the day a delegation from Shochtim Union Local 440 the organization of slaughterers, visited City Hall, Arthur Simon, Health Department investigator in charge of Kashruth, and the Degel Harabonim, organization of orthodox rabbis.

Unable to see Mayor LaGuardia, the delegation placed in the hands of Major Dunham, the mayor’s secretary, a statement protesting against the speech of Market Commissioner William Fellowes Morgan Jr. last week that slaughterers and market workers are being overpaid.
