Justice A. Forest has taken under advisement a motion for further particulars of a petition by the Jewish Community Council in which the court is asked to issue an interlocutory injunction against Isidor Brenner, to prevent him from slaughtering cattle and stamping it kosher meat.
Brenner, through counsel, pointed out that the petition alleged that he was acting contrary to the Mosaic law and was killing and stamping cattle without the authority of the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Montreal. His counsel wanted the petitioner to specify in virtue of what authority the Council of Orthodox Rabbis was under the jurisdiction of the Community Council, and what authority the Council had for constituting itself the authority to say who may or may not slaughter cattle for the Jewish race. He also wanted to know what were the laws, regulations and customs of the Orthodox Jewish faith which he was supposed to have disregarded.
The action by the Jewish Community Council is aimed to strengthen its control over the slaughter of Kosher Meat and its constituted authority.
