The committee authorized to accept Detroit’s quota of German-Jewish children has now been organized. It consists of Aaron Droock, representing the B’nai B’rith; Mrs. Huga A. Freund of the Council of Jewish Women; Rabbi Leon Fram of the American Jewish Congress; Henry Wineman of the American Jewish Committee, and Fred M. Butzel, chairman, representing the local community.
Under the conditions of admission only 250 children, ranging in age from 6 to 14 years, are coming over to this country, of which not more than 10 will be assigned to Detroit.
The children will come from families which were not dependent before the German crisis and in no event will they be inmates from children’s institutions. Under agreement with the government, they will go into free homes, except in emergencies, and the homes will accept supervision of the home placement agency of the respective communities. In view of the fact that the children’s parents are living, adoption cannot be contemplated.
